On Sept. 7, Hatheer broke her maiden impressively at 1 1/16 mile on the turf after dueling through the early going and then pulling off to a 1 1/2-length win in her second start at Saratoga. She also raced on turf in her debut at the Spa.
Oct. 4, Miss Grillo Stakes, Belmont Park, One Mile (T). Among several others, Hatheer was scratched when the race came off the turf.
Oct. 15, Jessamine Stakes, Keeneland, 1 1/16 Mile. The race was taken off the turf, and the unlucky Hatheer (2-1) was not scratched. She finished third. House of Grace (3-1) remained undefeated in two starts with a narrow victory, timed in 1:44.32. It was a "Win and You're In" race for the Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Racing along the rail early, House of Grace angled out in the stretch under Mike Luzzi and wore down Smart Seattle (5-2) to win by a nose. It was 3 1/4 lengths back to Hatheer. Nine ran.

As of Oct. 5, she looked doubtful for Breeders' Cup--if her trainer had his way. But here she is.
After finishing a strong, closing second in a 5 1/2 furlong stakes opening week at Del Mar, La Nez was put back into conditions.
Aug. 15, Maiden Special Weight, Del Mar, Six Furlongs. Favored at 8-5, La Nez came through with a three-quarter length win. Under Victor Espinoza, she stalked in fourth and third in the early going behind fractions of :22.24 and :45.45, then finished in 1:11.06.
The chart call: "La Nez had speed between foes, then stalked outside a rival, came three deep into the stretch, took the lead outside nearing midstretch, inched clear, and held under urging."
Warren's Jitterbug, at 18-1, closed from seventh to take second.
Sept. 5, Grade I Darley Debutante Stakes, Del Mar, Seven Furlongs. La Nez finished third, holding on, at 41-1 odds. She acted up before the race; otherwise, she might have won.
Mi Sueno came into the race highly credentialed and was favored at even money. She ran like that, winning by a length over the closing Blind Luck (4-1). La Nez was a head behind Blind Luck at the finish. Mi Sueno was timed in 1:23.78.
Here's the chart call: "La Nez chased outside then alongside a rival, moved up four wide leaving the turn and into the stretch, gained the advantage three deep in midstretch, was between horses in deep stretch and just held third."
Victor Espinoza, aboard La Nez: “She was wound up in the paddock. She was wound up on parade. Too much. I think it hurt her. When we turned for home, I thought I was going to win easy. But I think she left a good part of her race in the warm up.”
Oct. 3, Cal Cup Juvenile Fillies, Santa Anita, Seven Furlongs. La Nez, the 2-1 favorite, won by 1 1/2 length under Mike Smith. La Nez covered seven furlongs in 1:23.29. She came from off the pace to draw off.
She was cross-entered in the next day's Grade I Oak Leaf.
Eric Kruljac, winning trainer: ‘"La Nez is so tractable, you can put her wherever you need to.... She wants to go longer; I should have run her in the Oak Leaf, but hindsight is 20-20, you know.
"I’ll wait and see what’s next, kind of see how she’s doing. I’d like to give her two, three months of light training and have a 3-year-old for next year."
Mike Smith, winning rider: “Victor Espinoza was supposed to ride her, but I guess he had an obligation to ride for Bob Baffert in the East. I’m not sure how it happened, but I was just fortunate to pick her up.
"She really is a classy filly. I watched her last race, and she ran a big one over there in the Del Mar Debutante. I figured she just needed to repeat that performance today. Eric Kruljac told me just to wait a little bit. He said she’s got a run, but it’s a short one, so don’t make it too long."

Tapitsfly scored a 11/4-length victory in the P.G. Johnson Stakes on the turf at Saratoga on Sept. 3. The gray daughter of Tapit had broken her maiden in an off-the-turf race for jockey Robby Albarado at the Spa on Aug. 3 after three tries on the dirt.
“She couldn’t be training any better,” said trainer Romans going into the Miss Grillo. “We thought she would move up on turf, and she did.”
Oct. 4, Miss Grillo Stakes, Belmont Park, One Mile (T). In the $156,000 race, Dad’s Crazy scored the first victory of her career as she rallied through the stretch and drew clear to a 3 1/4-length win over odds-on Tapitsfly. Fuzzy Britches was third of three.
Ridden by Julien Leparoux and trained by Todd Pletcher for Smarch Racing, the 2-year-old daughter of Langfuhr covered the mile in 1:40.04 over a track rated good as she extended her record to 1-1-0 from four starts. The race was taken off the turf after heavy rains the day before.
“She may be a better filly on turf, but she had trained well on dirt,” Pletcher said of Dad’s Crazy, who returned $10.20 for a $2 win bet. “It worked out well. We’ll look for something for her towards the end of the meet.”
Among several others, Hatheer was scratched when the race came off the turf.
