FILLY & MARE SPRINT

Her Smile – The 3yo daughter of Include showed signs of brilliance when she
won the Prioress at Belmont in early July, but has been off the board in two subsequent starts in the Test at Saratoga (finished 4th) and the Charles Town Oaks (6th).

“She seems to be doing well,” trainer Todd Pletcher said. “Her breezes over the
track were quite good. She’s sort of the filly version of (Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Sprint entrant) Aikenite for us. She needs a really fast pace up front. Hopefully she’ll be closing late.”

The filly galloped 1 1/4m Wednesday and will be making her ninth start of the
season in this race. John Velazquez has the mount.

Irish Gypsy – The Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint contender
galloped 1m under exercise rider Jorge Alvarez and will do the same tomorrow,
according to trainer Bob Baffert.

Pomeroys Pistol – The winner of the Gallant Bloom Handicap last out was sent
out for a gallop around the track on Wednesday and the schedule will be the same on the following day, provided the weather cooperates.

“If the weather is good, she’ll go out first after the break,” said trainer Amy
Tarrant, who had just stepped off a plane when reached by phone.

“I don’t even know who was on her, to be honest. We’re in Scooter Dickey’s barn
and I borrowed his exercise rider. I don’t know his name yet.”

Tarrant said that the 3yo daughter of Pomeroy, who was the runner-up in the Test and Prioress at Saratoga this summer, is coming into what will be a tough race in great shape.

“I’ve been traveling, so I’ll feel better when I see her gallop in the morning,” she
said.

Switch – The millionaire daughter of Quiet American galloped with the first
horses on the main track Wednesday morning, finishing up her preparations for the Filly & Mare Sprint, a race she finished second in last year at Churchill Downs.

“That’s it; we’re done,” said trainer John Sadler back at Barn 36. “She’ll just walk
tomorrow, then she runs Friday. We’re good to go. We’re just waiting now.”
Sadler indicated he would visit the paddock with his 4yo filly both Wednesday
and Thursday afternoon during the races.

Turbulent Descent – The winner of Saratoga’s Test Stakes had another full
morning of training on Wednesday, schooling in the paddock, going to the gate, and galloping 1 1/2m for trainer Mike Puype.

“She’s just doing great,” Puype said of his 3yo filly. “Things couldn’t be any better.”
