Citing a fever spiked this morning by Medaglia d'Amour, trainer Ben Cecil pulled her from the Breeders' Cup Ladies Classic.

"We scratched her this morning because she had a 102 temperature. She coughed a couple of times, too, so we can't run her like that," Cecil said.

Medaglia d'Amour drew post 9 in the Ladies' Classic and was assigned a 30-1 morning line. Pat Valenzuela had been named to ride the 5-year-old daughter of Medaglia d'Oro.

Ten were entered in the race. The defection will move the outside post holder, Super Espresso, one spot closer to the rail in the starting gate.

Another defection from Breeders' Cup developed today with the scratch of Gung Ho from the Juvenile Turf. He was a 20-1 morning line trained by Mike Maker for Ken and Sarah Ramsey. Mike Smith had the mount.

The defection moves also-eligible Tequila Factor into the race.
