As of 8:54 a.m. ET today, Louisville had gotten .66 inch of rain in the last 24 hours. The official rainfall count is gathered at the Louisville airport, which is just south of Churchill Downs.
The rain, which turned to a mist midday yesterday and remained that way, ended by 4:00 a.m. at the latest by all accounts. The sky is cloudy right now, but it's expected to clear up this afternoon and be sunny all day Saturday.
The dirt course was sloppy before the renovation break, and it was upgraded to muddy by the second round of training. The turf course was rated yielding this morning, and horses were allowed to train on it around the dogs. The inner 22 feet of the course was untouched. Turf racing will be on the hedge today and tomorrow.
Sea Moon put in an easy breeze going three furlongs on the turf. There were no other workouts for Breeders' Cup horses reported by Equibase.
The turf course has had some cut to it all week, and the recent precipitation may render it no harder than "good" today and tomorrow. European horses hoping for giving ground should feel right at home on the grass, while connections that gambled on a firm course like last year's won't be as happy.
