Horse Racing at The Downey Profile® Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown Coverage 

War Horse Nominated for Six Oscars

War Horse has been nominated in six Oscar categories, including Best Picture.

The movie is set in World War I and co-stars a retired Thoroughbred racehorse named Finder’s Key in real life. The movie was directed by Steven Spielberg

War Horse also was nominated in the categories of Art Direction, Cinematography, Original Score, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.

In the movie, Albert, a young Englishman, joins the military after his horse Joey is sold to the cavalry. Albert is shipped to the mainland and experiences the horrors of war.

War Horse is a 1982 children's novel. It was produced as a play, first in London's West End, then on Broadway in New York City. Spielberg bought the film rights from the author of the book, Michael Morpurgo. It took 64 days to film the movie.
