Gemologist, the Grade II Kentucky Jockey Club winner, put in his first recorded workout of the year today at Palm Meadows.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Gemologist (Looking Good) is being pointed toward a two-race campaign before the Kentucky Derby. He's won three races in three starts, the most recent one being the Jockey Club at Churchill Downs last November.
A son of Tiznow bred by G. Watts Humphrey Jr. and the Louise Ireland Humphrey Revocable Trust 2, Gemologist is owned by WinStar Farm.
Gemologist breezed an easy three furlongs in 39.80 (7/7).
Also on the worktab at Palm Meadows for Pletcher and WinStar was Big Blue Nation (Worth Watching). It was his seventh such move at the training center since Dec. 24. He breezed five furlongs in 1:01.00 (5/24).
Big Blue Nation was last seen racing in the Grade I Hopeful on Sept. 5 along with yesterday's Robert B. Lewis winner I'll Have Another (Looking Good). He finished third behind Currency Swap after closing on a sloppy track. Big Blue Nation was being pointed to the Grade I Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland, but he disappeared from the worktab after Sept. 26.
Spring Hill Farm (Worth Watching), owned by Stonestreet Stable, and Thunder Moccasin (Worth Watching), owned by Starlight Racing, each breezed today as well for Pletcher. We reported last week that both are said to be the most likely of eight nominees from the trainer's stable to start in the Grade II Hutcheson Stakes this Saturday.
Spring Hill Farm breezed five furlongs in 1:01.00 (5/24), and Thunder Moccasin breezed a bullet four furlongs in :47.60 (1/46).
