With $631,304 wagered in Pool 1 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager, a new record was set, exceeding the 2005 figure of $620,362 by $10,942, or 1.76%.
The field, or all other 3-year-olds, garnered $160,625 from total win betting of $494,263. The futures exacta wager drew $137,041 in bets.
This weekend's figure is up 6.55% from a year ago. Last year's total for pool 1 was $592,492.
After closing the first day of wagering at 3-5, the field closed at 3-2, compared to 2-1 in 2011. Last year's All Other bet was a winning one, paying $6.20.
As expected, Union Rags closed with the lowest odds of any individual at 7-1. Four other horses closed at less than 20-1: Algorithms at 12-1, Alpha at 19-1, Creative Cause at 17-1 and El Padrino at 16-1.
I'll Have Another, winner of the Grade II Robert B. Lewis last weekend, stands at 29-1, while Emire Way, second in the Lewis, is 33-1. Liaison, the CashCall Futurity winner that fell after clipping heels in the race, is 56-1.
Hansen, the 2-year-old champion last year, closed at 26-1. Ever So Lucky, who was scratched from the Hutcheson Stakes on Saturday, stands at 55-1.
Highest odds of the 23 individual bettings interests goes to Longview Drive at 141-1.
Pool of the Derby Future Wager seems like it's just around the corner. It opens March 2 and closes March 4. That weekend will see the runnings of the Grade III Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct and the John Battaglia Memorial at Turway Park.
