Casual Trick: "We'll Take A Shot"

Casual Trick will get another chance in the Grade II Fountain of Youth.
The colt was a big disappointment to his connections and fans when backing up to an eighth-of-nine finish as the favorite in a competitive 1 1/16-mile allowance race on Jan. 29. The track was wet that day.
“He worked good (Saturday) morning (1:00.40 (3/23, breezing, at Palm Meadows), and we’re going to give him a chance,” said Zito. “I want to think he just didn’t like the off track the last time and just throw that race out. He had shown enough to be favored, so we’ll take a shot. We know it’s a tough spot. Nakatani will ride him.”
A son of Bernardini purchased for $425,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Casual Trick built up a following after an impressive maiden score at Churchill Downs going a mile on Nov. 18 in his second start.
He was second in the 1 1/16-mile Gulfstream Park Derby on Jan. 1 in his first race around two turns. The race was won by Reveron.
