The Kentucky Derby is only 53 days away now, and the quest for valuable qualifying points has intensified -- and changed the shape of the leaderboard quite a bit in the last couple of weeks. Let's take a look at what's going where next. Over 70 horses are listed. Their Kentucky Derby points are included in order of ranking on the leaderboard.

CAVEATS: This is not intended to be a survey of all 3-year-olds. Horses with four or fewer Derby points are not necessarily included.

Samraat (60): Wood Memorial on April 5.

Intense Holiday (53): Louisiana Derby on March 29.

Wildcat Red (50): Florida Derby on March 29.

Ring Weekend (50): Connections considering the Calder Derby on April 5.

California Chrome (50): Santa Anita Derby on April 5 or Kentucky Derby.

Midnight Hawk (32): On the right schedule for the Santa Anita Derby or Arkansas Derby on April 12.

Albano (24): Louisiana Derby.

Uncle Sigh (24): Wood Memorial.

Tapiture (22): Rebel Stakes on March 15.

Vinceremos (20): TBA.

Vicar's in Trouble (20): Although in Florida now, owner said Louisiana Derby over the weekend.

General a Rod (20): Florida Derby.

Havana (14): Undetermined, waiting on a quarter-crack to pan out.

Cairo Prince (14): Florida Derby.

Honor Code (14): Allowance race at Gulfstream Park on March 12.

Kristo (14): Santa Anita Derby or Arkansas Derby fit the schedule.

Tamarando (12): Spiral Stakes on March 22.

Bond Holder (11): Difficult to determine; has been in a clinic in Ocala with a foot abscess.

Rise Up (10): He'll add blinkers next out, but as of now, connections undecided. Louisiana Derby is stated to be "possible".

We Miss Artie (10): Spiral Stakes.

Candy Boy (10): Santa Anita Derby.

In Trouble (10): Wood Memorial.

Noble Moon (10): Wood Memorial.

Ami's Holiday (10): Rebel Stakes or Arkansas Derby.

Tanzanite Cat (10): The Rebel Stakes or the Sunland Derby on March 23 or the Northern Spur on April 12.

Surfing U S A (10): Too early to tell.

Conquest Titan (9): Before updating, we noted he's run on synthetic twice, including at Keeneland. Jennie Rees reports he's going to the Arkansas Derby.

Strong Mandate (6): Rebel Stakes.

Casiguapo (5): No workouts since racing on Feb. 2.

Ride On Curlin (5): Rebel Stakes.

Financial Mogul (5): Wood Memorial would make sense.

Classic Giacnroll (5): Ran seventh in the Private Terms, further lowering expectations.

East Hall (5): Toyota Blue Grass on April or Coolmore Lexington on April 19 make sense; has run well on synthetic at Ocala.

Schoolofhardrocks (5): Looks like the Santa Anita Derby, but it's too early to tell for sure.

Hoppertunity (5): Looks like it will be the Louisiana Derby after assistant trainer Jim Barnes said Hoppertunity seemed to like Fair Grounds.

Chitu (4): Rebel Stakes? Sunland Derby?

Coastline (3): Spiral Stakes.

Enterprising: (2): Maybe time to come east and try synthetic track at Turfway or Keeneland.

Gold Hawk (2): Louisiana Derby.

AND IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER:

Bayern: (0): Waiting to see how long foot bruise will keep him out of action.

Bobby's Kitten (0): Toyota Blue Grass Stakes.

Bourbonize (0): Rebel Stakes.

Cant'thelpbelieving (0): Nominated to March 29 UAE Derby, but several other options exist.

Commanding Curve (0): Presumably the Louisiana Derby.

Commissioner (0): Waiting to hear, but maybe somewhere other than Gulfstream Park.

Constitution (0): Stakes race at a location yet to be determined by us.

Coup de Grace (0): Steadily working toward something. Was declared off the Derby Trail after the Holy Bull debacle.

Dance with Fate (Not Nominated): Toyota Blue Grass Stakes.

Dunkin Bend (0): Either the Rebel or the Gazebo on March 22.

Edison (0): Working steadily, have to figure a synthetic track race in Kentucky.

Gala Award (0): Toyota Blue Grass figures; trainer Pletcher has run in the Spiral (then Lane's End) too and won it.

Giovanni Boldini (0): UAE Derby? He's nominated to it -- and to the Triple Crown.

Global Strike (0): Not sure where yet.

Global View (0): Rematch with Bobby's Kitten in the Blue Grass?

Harpoon (0): Undetermined.

Kid Cruz: (0): Wood Memorial.

Kobe's Back (0): Rebel Stakes.

Louies Flower (0): Louisiana Derby.

Matador (0): Before updating, we noted he has experience on synthetic. Jennie Rees reports he'll go in the Florida Derby.

Medal Count (0): Fully expect to see him in the Spiral or Blue Grass.

Mexikoma (0): Either the Wood Memorail or Arkansas Derby if he doesn't run out of time after missing training with a lung infection.

Mr Speaker (0): Was nominated to the Toyota Blue Grass but may not run there, with an intermediate goal being summer races at Belmont Park and Saratoga.

No Nay Never (0): Said to be the Jersey Stakes at Ascot on June 18.

Poker Player (0): Toyota Blue Grass.

Street Strategy (0): Rebel Stakes.

Tonalist (0): Must admit we don't know.

Victory Nor Defeat (0): Somewhere down the Triple Crown Trail, but not sure where yet.
