Untrapped Has First Breeze at Oaklawn

Ortiz Named to Ride First Time

Althought at this post the information isn't online at Equibase.com, Untrapped breezed five furlongs today for the Rebel Stakes. It was his first workout at Oaklawn Park.

Sent out about 40 minutes after the track opened for training, Untrapped was timed in 1:01.00. Track clockers caught his first quarter-mile in 22.80 and out six furlongs in 1:14.

Trained by Steve Asmussen, Untrapped in his last two starts finished second in the LeComte and Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds.

Owner Mike Langford said Irad Ortiz Jr. will ride Untrapped for the first time in the Rebel. The jockey's brother, Jose Ortiz, is named for the return mount on Petrov.

“He’s absolutely the most talented horse I’ve ever had,” said Langford, who also campaigned Jonesboro, an earner of over $1.5 million, and currently has Carve, a millionaire. “He just stays.”

Other locally based horses pointing for the Rebel include Petrov, Lookin At Lee, Silver Dust and Uncontested, second, third, fourth and sixth, respectively, in the Southwest Stakes; and Silver Bullion, who broke his maiden Feb. 9.

Expected to ship in for the Rebel are Royal Mo and American Anthem from Southern California and unbeaten Malagacy from south Florida.
