Always Dreaming Off to Baltimore

5/9/2017

Others Also Departing Churchill

Always Dreaming departed Churchill Downs Tuesday morning for Louisville International Airport and a flight to Baltimore and Pimlico Race Course, arriving there around mid-day.

Joining him was Royal Mo, an also-eligible for the Derby who did not draw into the field of 20.

Three other Derby runners considered probable for the Preakness walked the shedrow at Churchill Downs on Tuesday: Lookin At Lee (second), Classic Empire (fourth) and Hence (11th).

Gunnevera jogged twice around the Churchill Downs oval with a pony. Regular exercise rider Victor O’Farrel was aboard. Gunnevera was declared for the Preakness yesterday. With the defection of Javier Castellano, Mike Smith will ride in the Preakness.

“The main factor in deciding to run is that he is sound and doing good, and we think we have a good chance in the Preakness,” said Allessando Sano, son of trainer Antonio Sano, who returned to Miami on Monday. “He doesn’t seem like he ran a mile and a
quarter. We are going to take it one race at a time and right now the Preakness is the main goal.”

Gunnevera is scheduled to be vanned to Baltimore, leaving early Saturday morning.

Also departing Churchill Downs on Tuesday are Battle of Midway (third in the Derby), Gormley (ninth), Sonneteer (16th) and Irap (18th). All of them are being shipped back to California.

Thunder Snow, who was pulled up soon after bucking after the start, returned to the track for a second consecutive day and jogged a mile with a pony and cantered a mile. He is scheduled to leave Churchill Downs on Tuesday afternoon for Huntsville, Alabama, where a flight to England is waiting.
