We know Garrett Gomez will ride in the Grade II Louisiana Derby on March 26, just not what.
“We have a little bit of a situation in the Louisiana Derby at the moment that we’ll know more about on Monday,” said Ron Anderson, agent for Garrett Gomez. Gomez rode Wilkinson to victory in the Grade III Lecomte Stakes on Jan. 22 and didn't ride in the Grade II Risen Star four weeks later.
Neil Howard, trainer of Wilkinson, had this to say. “We’re also not sure about who’s going to ride Wilkinson in the Louisiana Derby at the moment,” Howard said, “but one thing’s for sure – there will be somebody on him when they leave the paddock. At this point we just don’t know who.”
The good news for Gomez fans? He'll be stateside--in New Orleans--on March 26 for your Triple Crown fantasy league stable while other prominent jockeys, such as Rafael Bejarano, Ramon Dominguez, Joel Rosario and Mike Smith to name a few, will be in Dubai.
