Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

J P's Gusto Out of Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby will proceed without J P’s Gusto in it.

J P's Gusto, second in the Grade III Southwest Stakes, was far off the board in the Grade II Rebel and Grade I Arkansas Derby. He set a fast early pace in the latter race and then finished eighth.

According to a story broken by Thoroughbred Times, racing manager John O'Hara said J P's Gusto will ship to New York on Tuesday. He's headed for trainer Michael Hushion's barn. He's been at a farm in Kentucky for the past week since leaving Joe Petalino's barn at Oaklawn Park.

The defections moves Shackleford, trained by Dale Romans, into number 20 on the graded earnings list for the Kentucky Derby.
