Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

Jan. 29 Racing News

Saturday Morning Notes
A few brief notes before today's races.

Toby Keith's Sherriff Cogburn (Just In Case) is due to arrive at Oaklawn in about a week, according to trainer Donnie K Von Hemel. Von Hemel said the colt has been in light training at Keith’s farm in Oklahoma for the last 40 days after getting time to recover from what was described as a minor injury, and that he hoped to race him by the end of the current Oaklawn meet.

After running a disappointing fourth in the Smarty Jones Stakes, we may still see Archarcharch (Just In Case) back in the Southwest Stakes, trainer Jinks Fires said.

Bug Juice (Just In Case) has yet to put in a workout since racing in the Grade III Delta Jackpot last November.

DRF.com reported yesterday afternoon that Mountain Town, from the Rick Dutrow stable, is off the Derby Trail.

Grande Shores hasn't put in a recorded workout since being scratched from the Jan. 8 Spectacular Bid Stakes.
