Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

Feb. 7 Racing News

Howard Updates Risen Star Plans
Neil Howard said today that while Machen (Worth Watching) is still being pointed to the Grade III Risen Star on Feb. 19, stablemate Wilkinson (Worth Watching) is now also being considered. Howard said the latter one is 60-40 for the race. Meanwhile, Prime Cut (Worth Watching) is being reserved for another spot and, for the time being, is entered "main track only" in a Friday turf allowance.

Notice Regarding Our Lists Pages
Our Looking Good, Worth Watching and Just In Case pages will be reviewed for changes today or tomorrow. It's time to move some horses to another barn and to ship out some that haven't really shown up for the 2011 Derby Trail. And we'll add one or two, like Twinspired, who won the WEBN this past Saturday.

Breen Says Options Open for Pants on Fire
Pants on Fire (Worth Watching) may be making a return trip to New Orleans for the Grade II Risen Star Stakes Feb. 19. “The work (on Saturday) was good,” said trainer Kelly Breen. “It went well. I might possibly give him one more work next week before I decide for sure what we’re going to do, but I liked his race over (the Fair Grounds) track last time. He really tried.... Right now, we’re keeping our options open.”

Reader Quote of the Day
"Uncle Mo reminds me of Smarty Jones from a big name outfit, with a Breeders' Cup race behind him. He's a beauty of a horse."--Adam G., Seattle

Owner Quote of the Day
David Koenig said of Twinspired, winner of the WEBN Stakes: "He ran a big race, but we'll defer those questions to Mike Maker. But how's this: When we bought him, the plan was the Kentucky Derby, and we're working backwards from there."
