Final declarations are in for the 1 3/16-mile Al Bastakiya, set to be run at Meydan Racecourse this Thursday, and all 10 original entries stand. Post time is 10:05 a.m. ET.
Bridgefield leads the returnees from the one-mile, Group 3 UAE 2000 Guineas in the Al Bastakiya. A Kentucky-bred son of Speightstown that was fourth in the Feb. 10 race, Bridgefield is trained for Godolphin by Mahmoud Al Zarooni. He was bought by Godolphin for $700,000 at the 2009 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale. The breeder was B. M. Kelley.
Ahlaain and Borug are the other two Kentucky-breds in the Al Bastakiya.
Ahlaain is a $60,000 Keeneland September 2009 purchase bred by Kilboy Estate, Inc. and owned by Sultan Ali. He is a winner of two races from eight starts and most recently was second in a listed stake on the turf at Meydan only five days ago.
Borug is also owned by Godolphin, who paid $550,000 for him at Keeneland. Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, LLC, Borug is two-for-five, with one of those wins coming on the synthetic at Kempton. His other four races have come on the turf. Meydan has a synthetic surface.
Besides Bridgefield, other runners returning from the 2000 Guineas are Sonoran Sands (IRE), who finished sixth; Paulinho (ARG), seventh; Air of Grace (IRE), ninth; and Abjer (FR), tenth.
The top three finishers from the 2000 Guineas--Splash Point, Zanazamar and Krypton Factor--will presumably wait for the Group 2 UAE Derby on March 26.
