Mucho Macho Man put in a workout today at Gulfstream Park ahead of a trip to New Orleans next week for the Grade II Louisiana Derby. The likely favorite for the race breezed an easy five furlongs in 1:02.60 (18/25) for trainer Kathy Ritvo.
“He went very well,” said Ritvo, “and he galloped out great. It was more of a maintenance move than anything. He’s ready to run. We should arrive at Fair Grounds shortly after noon on Wednesday. I’m glad things are going so well for me (Ritvo is a heart transplant recipient) and I’m glad the horse is doing so well.”
Another one based in South Florida headed to New Orleans is Nacho Business, according to trainer Kelly Breen, who was at Sunland Park today with the Halls’ Nacho Saint. The latter colt will run in the Grade III Sunland Derby a week from tomorrow.
Nacho Business is a son of Rahy that made both of his career starts earlier in the Gulfstream meet, winning his debut going a mile on Jan. 30, and running a very good second behind Arch Traveler in a 1 1/8-mile allowance race on Feb.26.
Breen also trained Sweet Ducky for the Halls, but they recently sold him to Chechnyan President Ramzan Kadyrov, and the colt is in in Dubai where he will run in the Group 2 UAE Derby next Saturday.
