Sway Away Puts in Six-Furlong Breeze

Sway Away showed yesterday that he's benefited from his stay at Oaklawn Park following a sixth-place finish in the Grade II Rebel Stakes by posting a good-looking six-furlong workout in 1:12.60.

With jockey Luis Quinonez aboard, Sway Away, a son of Afleet Alex, moved steadily through fractions of :12.80, :24.60, :36.80, :49.40 and 1:01.00 before galloping out seven furlongs in 1:25.00

“It was a very nice work,” said Quinonez, who used to ride for Bonde when the jockey was based in California. “He started off a little show like we wanted and picked it up nicely. He finished good and galloped out really good. I worked him last time also, and he went in 59, so he’s a nice horse.”

Quinonez is the regular rider for Alternation, who is possible for the Arkansas Derby after flipping in the starting gate of the Rebel and being scratched.

Garret Gomez, aboard for Sway Away’s last two starts, is expected to have the mount once again for the Grade I Arkansas Derby.
