Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

Flashpoint Finished with Major Preakness Work

Today at Keeneland, Flashpoint breezed five furlongs in 1:00.60 (10/28) in preparation for next Saturday's Preakness.

It was the fourth breeze at Keeneland since Flashpoint finished a wide fourth in the Grade I Florida Derby on April 3 in his first race going two turns.

On April 21, Flashpoint breezed five in :59.60 (5/22) at KEE.
On April 28, Flashpoint breezed five in :59.00 (1/27) at KEE.
On May 6, Flashpoint worked five in :59.00 (1/48) at KEE.

The Preakness will be only the fourth career start for Flashpoint, who didn't compete on the track as a 2-year-old. He debuted at Aqueduct in January under the tutelage of Richard Dutrow Jr. and broke his maiden going six furlongs.

He was sent directly into stakes competition in Florida and won the Grade II Hutcheson Stakes by 7 1/4 lengths. That led to his start in the Florida Derby.

Dutrow doesn't have a Kentucky trainer's license and is in trouble with regulators in New York. Flashpoint was transferred to the care of Wesley Ward after the Florida Derby. Cornelio Velasquez will ride Flashpoint in the Preakness.
