According to the New York Racing Association press office, three horses have been added to the list of possibles for the Belmont Stakes: Monzon, Ruler On Ice and Tech Fall.
Monzon, trained by Ignacio Correas for Sagamore Farm, was on the Triple Crown Trail earlier this year, but that ended when he was shipped south from New York and finished fifth in the Grade III Sam F. Davis Stakes on Feb. 12. In his only race since, he finished sixth in the Grade II Peter Pan Stakes, beaten 7 3/4 lengths by Alernation.
Ruler On Ice was briefly considered for the Preakness after he finished second to Concealed Identity in the Frederico Tesio Stakes. It was reported he'd had some below-par blood tests, and he wasn't entered in the middle jewel. He was entered in the Kentucky Derby but came up short on graded earnings. Kelly Breen is the conditioner for Ruler On Ice for owners George and Lori Hall.
Tech Fall has only three career starts for trainer Tony Dutrow--and one this year. On April 30, he won an allowance going a mile and 70 yards at Delaware Park, timed in 1:39 1/5. He's owned by Michael Dubb, Bethlehem Stables and The Elkstone Group.
