No Belmont for Wilkinson

A day after Neil Howard said Wilkinson might compete in the Belmont Stakes, it looks like his consideration was short-lived.

Today Howard said his plan is for Wilkinson to run next in the Grade III Matt Winn Stakes, formerly known as the Northern Dancer, on Stephen Foster Day at Churchill Downs on June 18.  Machen, winner of the Grade III The Cliff’s Edge Derby Trial, will likely run in the Grade II Dwyer on July 2 at Belmont Park.

Yesterday, Howard said Wilkson was a Belmont Stakes possible. “I’m considering Wilkinson for the Belmont. He seems like the kind of horse that would like going a mile and a half,” Howard told Churchill Downs.
