Fort Loudon Looks to Sweep Florida Stallion Series

10/13/2011

By Dick Downey

Fort Loudon and Burning Time headline a field of seven entered in Saturday's $300,000 In Reality Division finale of the Florida Stallion Stakes (FSS) series.

Burning Time earned his place in the 1 1/16-mile In Reality with an impressive 2 1/2 length score in the $100,000 Foolish Pleasure going a mile and 70 yards at Calder on Sept. 17, the first time in four career starts he finished first--but not his first win.

A son of Burning Roma, Burning Time was placed first on a disqualification in his debut on July 10. That was followed by a troubled ninth-place try behind Fort Loudon in the Dr. Fager Division of the FSS in early August. He was second again in the one-mile Seacliff Stakes on Aug. 27.

David Fawke trains Burning Time; Daniel Centeno will ride.

But it's Fort Loudon who's looking for a sweep of the three ‘open’ divisions in the In Reality, a triple trainer Fawkes posted with Big Drama as a 2-year-old in 2008. Fort Loudon is in the stable of Stanley Gold and will be ridden Saturday by Luis Jurado.

The son of Awesome of Course won the Dr. Fager and Affirmed divisions of the FSS, with stable mate Argentine Tango second in both races. Gold has also entered Argentine Tango in the In Reality and has named Luis Saez in the irons.

Sarava's Dancer was entered by trainer Bill White. The colt finished second in his Calder debut on Sept. 3 and broke his maiden three weeks later. Cornelio Velasquez has the mount.

Others in the race look less qualified on paper.

Manny Azpura trainee Soy Yo, who's won a maiden claiming race and a pair of starter allowances at Calder, finished tenth in the Dr. Fager. Ameth Gonzalez will ride.

Azpura also sends out maiden Kings Over, to be handled by Jose Alvarez. Kings Over has raced three times and finished sixth in the Foolish Pleasure last time out.

Twin is also a maiden, and he's run six times at Calder. Trainer Pedro Maestre will have Juan Delgado in the saddle.

The In Reality is race12 with a post time of 5:34 ET.
