Longview Drive Bags Charlie Palmer Futurity

Longview Drive, favored at 4-5 odds, won the Charlie Palmer Futurity going 1 1/16 mile at Fresno. He's a full brother to Pyro.

Under Russell Baze, the Jerry Hollendorfer trainee laid in second early, attending the pace set by 35-1 Gael Mania, went three wide on the turn, and bid for the win in the stretch. After being bumped in upper stretch by a drifting-in Marshal Marini, who had rolled up from fifth position, Longview Drive regrouped and won by 1 1/4 length. He was timed in 1:45.50.

Marshal Marini was second across the finish line easily, followed six lengths back by Might Monsoon. They were followed by Gael Mania, 2-1 second choice Hurry Home Clover, Taylor Marini and Sold Short.

Initial fractions were moderate at :24.25, :48.63 and 1:13.54.

Longview Drive is a chestnut Pulpit colt out of Wild Vison, by Wild Again, bred in Kentucky by Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC. Steve Beneto is the winning owner.

After breaking his maiden at Pleasonton in his second start, Longview Drive won the six-furlong Cavonnier Juvenile at Santa Rosa in mid-August. The Charlie Palmer was his next start and first going a bit of a distance of ground.
