Get Stormy turned in a planned, lone work at Keeneland for the TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile. Last time out, he finished second to Gio Ponti in the Grade I Shadwell Turf Mile after prompting the pace set by Sidney's Candy.
Get Stormy worked five furlongs on the turf in 1:00.80 (1/1) with exercise rider Javier Cabrera aboard. Clockers caught Get Stormy in splits of :25.20, :49.40 and galloping out in 1:14.60.
“It was just about what we were looking for,” trainer Tom Bush said. “We needed to finish up strong and gallop out, and he did. He went the last quarter in :22 and 4. That’s good enough. We did what we needed to do.”
Get Stormy, who was fourth in Gio Ponti’s Shadwell Turf Mile in 2010, has followed a similar path to the Breeders’ Cup Mile as he did last year when he finished eleventh behind Goldikova. Bush is obviously looking for a better performance this year.
“We think he’s a better horse,” Bush said. “We were disappointed in the effort last year. We had some issues that we had to deal with after that, with his throat and all. We’re pleased with him. We really are. We think he’s going to run well.”
Bush said Get Stormy would ship to Churchill on Saturday morning and gallop each morning prior to the race. Garrett Gomez, the rider last time out, will again be in the irons on Nov. 5.
