Tweeters' Cup Launched for Cancer Charity

On Tuesday, Breeders’ Cup launches Tweeters’ Cup for fans and celebs to tweet their picks for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. For every tweet, Breeders’ Cup will donate $1, up to $100,000, to the Breeders’ Cup official charity, The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

Breeders’ Cup will also pick at random a participant who uses the designated hashtag, #tweeterscup or #BC11, to receive an all expense paid trip to next year’s Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita.

ESPN’s Kenny Mayne will serve as host of the Tweeters’ Cup, which will run up until post time of the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET.

“There’s always a lot of conversation on Twitter around the Breeders’ Cup.” said Peter Rotondo, Breeders’ Cup Vice President of Media and Entertainment. “The Tweeters’ Cup came about because we wanted a place to streamline that chatter and focus the conversation on our biggest race, the Classic. We talked to Kenny, and he was game to lend a hand.”

“I really thought we could have some fun with this,” said Mayne. “The Breeders’ Cup Classic is one of the greatest races in sports, and the Tweeters’ Cup is an easy way for fans to get involved and give back.”

TweetersCup.com features a display of the horses in the Classic field and will have a running tally of how many tweets each horse has received. The site also contains a live feed of @BreedersCup, in addition to hashtags #tweeterscup and #BC11, so fans can easily follow the conversation.

For more information about the Tweeters’ Cup, follow the Breeders’ Cup at @BreedersCup on Twitter or visit tweeterscup.com

About The V Foundation

The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $100 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide. It awards 100 percent of all direct cash donations and net proceeds of events directly to cancer research and related programs. Administrative and fundraising expenses are paid by the Foundation's endowment. The Foundation awards grants through a competitive awards process strictly supervised by a Scientific Advisory Board.
