Union Rags Day 2 Favorite Despite Florida Derby Loss

Despite a surprising loss as the odds-on favorite in the Grade I Florida Derby, Union Rags is the 7-2 favorite heading into the final day of betting in Churchill Downs’ Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 3.
Union Rags supplants Hansen, who was the 2-1 favorite after day one. Hansen is now the 5-1 second choice. The mutuel field, or “All Others”, is next at 6-1. Odds on Take Charge Indy dropped sharply after his Florida Derby upset for trainer Patrick Byrne. He opened Saturday’s betting at 50-1 but was 21-1 at day’s end.

Total betting in Pool 3 stands at $227,072. The total includes $172,795 in win betting and $54,277 in exacta wagers.
Betting resumes Sunday at Noon (all times Eastern), and the pool will conclude at special closing time of 6:30 p.m. to accomodate the running of the Grade II Louisiana Derby at 5:55 p.m. Normal closing is 6:00 p.m.

Saturday’s other major Kentucky Derby prep, the Group 2 UAE Derby, went to Daddy Long Legs. He's a member of the “All Others” bet.  On Sunday, Pool 3 interest Mark Valeski heads the Louisiana Derby. The Larry Jones-trained colt is the only Pool 3 betting interest in the race.
