Holy Candy, who was scratched from the Santa Anita Derby, is definite for the Grade I Toyota Blue Grass. He'll ship to Lexington “about mid-afternoon Tuesday” trainer John Sadler said.
Sadler worked Holy Candy today, six furlongs in 1:13.40.
“We thought three weeks would be better than two (after his maiden win), and Candy Ride's run well on both surfaces, and he’s done a lot of training on synthetics. It was tough; they ran good (in the Santa Anita Derby). It’s a really good group this year, from what I’ve seen.”
Bob Baffert worked Bodemeister in company with Saddleranch for the Grade I Arkansas Derby, five furlongs in 1:00.40 under Martin Garcia, while Saddleranch was clocked in 1:00.80 with Rafael Bejarano up.
Secret Circle is scheduled to work Monday, said Baffert, who supervised Sunday’s exercises while sitting in a Santa Anita grandstand seat along with his brother, Bill. Secret Circle is also headed to Arkanas.
Drill also worked for Baffert, going five furlongs in 1:00.80 with Garcia aboard in preparation for the Blue Grass.
I feel better this morning,” said Baffert, still recovering from a heart attack on March 26. “I was a little weak yesterday. Now I feel like a hundred dollars.”
