Things about Alpha have been undecided at one point or another, and now his next workout could be in a day or two or eight.
One thing is decided now, and it's that he'll be flown to Kentucky on April 30.
"Most likely we’re working him just once, here. We have him on the flight on the 30th, so we would probably work the 28th. There’s also a chance we could work in the next two days, it’s just a gut feeling, and we’ll see about the weather."
Whevener it is, the workout will be at Belmont Park.
Alpha’s jockey for the Kentucky Derby also remains a question mark. Ramon Dominguez has been riding both Alpha and Hansen. He's been aboard Alpha for all three of the colt’s starts this year.
“Obviously we’re waiting for Ramon,” said McLaughlin. “But I’m not putting any pressure. Each day that goes by is fine with me, no problem.”
Alpha sustained a cut on his left foreleg in the Grade I Wood Memorial, and it became infected, causing him to miss a scheduled van ride to Louisville on Apri 16.
“He’s doing really well,” trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said Friday. “We’re not out of the woods yet, but we’re doing well."
