Zayat Stables tweeted this morning that Paynter is training forwardly and will ship Monday to Churchill for his next start, the Grade III Derby Trial.
"Can't wait to see him run!" the tweet says.
Paynter is in the Bob Baffert stable, so expect to see Liaison on the plane with Paynter. Rousing Sermon should be on board as well.
Payter finished fourth in the Santa Anita Derby in only his second start, and first at two turns. He was beaten 3 3/4 lengths by I'll Have Another. The son of Awesome Again should attract a lot of interest at the windows during Churchill Downs' opening night, April 28.
Paynter has $45,000 in graded stakes earnings. While there's no chance he'll run in the Kentucky Derby, a shot in the Preakness would certainly be no surprise.
