Two more Kentucky Derby horses, Daddy Nose Best and Sabercat, put in their final workouts for Saturday's race before dawn on Monday at Churchill Downs. Both are trained by Steve Asmussen.
Sabercat was the first to be sent out, appearing a little before 6:00 ET. He hadn't been on the track long before making a four-furlong move on his own in :48.40, breezing. His splits were :12.60, :24.40 and :36.00. He galloped out five furlongs in 1:01.20 and six in 1:15.60. Sabercat was third in the Grade I Arkansas Derby on April 14.
About 20 minutes after Sabercat left the track, Daddy Nose Best, winner of the Grade III Sunland Derby in his last start, went through a similar routine, breezing four furlongs in :49.40. Internal fractions for the workout were :13.20, :25.60 and :37.40. He was out five furlongs in 1:02.40 and six in 1:16.60.
Other Derby horses expected to work today are Creative Cause, Liaison, Mark Valeski and Trinniberg. They're scheduled to come out at the 8:30 to 8:45 training period reserve for Derby and Kentucky Oaks horses.
