Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

Which Derby Halter Sold for Most Money?

At the Kentucky Derby Preview dinner Monday night at John E's Restaurant, five Kentucky Derby horse halters were auctioned to raise money for the Backside Learning Center. They had belonged to connections of Bodemeister, Creative Cause, Dullahan, Hansen and Union Rags. Which one do you think brought the highest bid?

It wasn't even close. Hansen won by several lengths.

The Union Rags halter was brought out first, so the crowd wasn't really warmed up yet. It brought $500.

The Creative Cause piece received a high bid of $550; Bodemeister's halter brought in $900 and Dullahan's took in $500.

But Hansen blew away the field with a high bid of $1,400. His halter was put up for bids just after Mike Maker spoke at length about Hansen and Derby 138.
