Saturday at Gulfstream Park, Park City held off a late run by Declan's Warrior to win a 6 1/2-furlong allowance race.
Ridden by John Velazquez for trainer Todd Pletcher, Park City stalked the pace on the rail, took aim at pacesetter Cat Five Hurricane and inched ahead of him in the late going. He withstood the late charge of Declan's Warrior.
The winner was timed in 1:17.53. He prevailed by a neck. Declan's Warrior, in turn, finished a neck in front of Cat Five Hurricane. Little Distorted, the 3-2 favorite, finished seventh of eight, beaten 8 1/2 lengths.
Sent off as the 3-1 third choice, Park City returned $8.20, $4.40 and $3.60. Declan's Moon was 5-2.
It was the first race for Park City since he won his five-furlong debut at Saratoga on July 27.
Both Park City and Declan's Warrior are Triple Crown-nominated. Cat Five Hurricane is not.
The winner is owned by Jack Wolf's Starlight Racing and was bred in Florida by the Entrust IRA For Benefit of Elizabeth Wheeler. Park City is a son of Harlan's Holiday out of Light Show, by Pleasant Colony.
