Palace Malice Headed to Risen Star

By Dick Downey

Todd Pletcher, who won the Grade II Risen Star Stakes last year with El Padrino, will try it again with Palace Malice.

Palace Malice broke his maiden at Saratoga last summer in his second start, but he bucked his shins after that score. He made his first start of 2013 in a $75,000 allowance/optional claiming race at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 19, finishing second to Majestic Hussar going seven furlongs on a sloppy trakc

The Feb. 23 Risen Star will be the first two-turn race for Palace Malice, a son of Curlin. He was originally sold for $25,000 at the Keeneland September 2011 Yearling Sale. Dogwood Stable purchased him for $200,000 at the Keeneland 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale.

“We can get Rosie Napravnik in New Orleans,” stated Dogwood president Cot Campbell in a press release. “Our horse is an easy shipper, and he’s been training sharply for Todd Pletcher since his good 2013 debut.”
