Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

Oaks Future Wager Has Sole Run This Weekend

2/27/2013

The Kentucky Oaks Future Wager features outstanding fillies, but “All Others" is expected to be the favorite in the three-day betting pool.

Reigning 2-year-old filly champion Beholder; and major stakes winners Dreaming of Julia, Executiveprivilege and Live Lively are headliners in the pool, but oddsmaker Mike Battaglia has installed “All Others” as the 3-1 favorite.

Trainer Bill Mott has four fillies among the Oaks Future betting interests and leads all trainers. They are Calistoga (20-1), Close Hatches (20-1), Emollient (15-1) and Flashy Gray (15-1).

Betting on the Oaks Future Wager will open at noon ET this Friday and close at 6:30 p.m. ET the following Sunday, 30 minutes after Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 2. The Derby Future Wager has three installments, but this weekend is the only Oaks Future Wager. Churchill Downs runs all four of the pools.

Beholder (15-1) sewed up the Eclipse Award for champion 2-year-old filly when she rolled to a front-running victory in the Grade I Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. But the Richard Mandella-trained filly finished second to Renee’s Titan (20-1) in her 2013 debut in the Grade II Santa Ynez.

Other fillies expect to attract strong support in the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pool include Grade I Frizette winner Dreaming of Julia (12-1); Live Lively (12-1), who defeated Dreaming of Julia in last week’s Grade II Davona Dale; and Midnight Lucky (12-1), an impressive winner of her recent debut at Santa Anita. Bob Baffert trains Midnight Lucky as well as Executiveprivilege (15-1).

The individual wagering interests for the KOFW  pool are chosen by a committee that includes Brad Free and Mike Watchmaker of Daily Racing Form;  Brisnet.com Marketing Director Ed DeRosa; and Churchill Downs’ John Asher.
