Flashback Works Final Time for San Felipe

Flashback moved a step closer to a much-anticipated showdown with Goldencents in the Grade II San Felipe Stakes with a sold five-furlong workout Sunday in a bullet ;59.00 (1/63) under regular rider Julien Leparoux.

The average time for the distance on Sunday was 1:01.72. Flashback went in company with stable mate Den’s Legacy, who was timed in :59.40 (3/63) under Erick Lopez.

“So far, so good,” said trainer Bob Baffert, a four-time winner of the San Felipe.

Goldencents, meanwhile, worked six furlongs Saturday, going in a bullet 1:11.60 (1/8), breezing. Private clocker Toby Turrell of Winners Card called the move by Goldencents “Dy-noh-mite!.”

Also Saturday, maiden winner Salutos Amigos, a San Felipe candidate, went five furlongs in company with I’m Wide Awake in 1:02.20, while his stablemate was clocked in 1:03.40, both for trainer Eric Guillot.

Probable for the San Felipe: Flashback, Julien Leparoux; Goldencents, Kevin Krigger; Hear the Ghost, Corey Nakatani; Kochees, rider not named; Omega Star, Joe Talamo; Salutos Amigos, rider not named; and Tiz A Minister, rider not named.
