Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

Monday Morning's Derby Trail Notes

Highlights from updates to our Looking Good, Worth Watching and Just In Case pages. Refer to those pages for details.

Robert Yates ‏(@RobertYatesADG), who covers horse racing for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, tweeted yesterday that Wayne Lukas said he plans to have at least one horse in the Arkansas Derby. Jon Court will ride CHANNEL ISLE (Just In Case) in the Spiral at Turfway, Lukas said; the trainer said he's looking at the Blue Grass as a possible race for WILL TAKE CHARGE (Looking Good); and TITLETOWN FIVE (Worth Watching) will be in the Sunland Derby. So all that, if it materializes, would leave OXBOW (Looking Good) in the Arkansas Derby.

Bob Baffert's DEN'S LEGACY (Worth Watching) was cut above a hock in the Rebel stakes. The hock is the large joint on the hind leg. He'll be fine and is probable for the Arkansas Derby.

Al Stall Jr.'s DEPARTING (Worth Watching) worked again for the Louisiana Derby Sunday, four in :50.60 (43/69) at FG.

Paddy Gallagher's DICE FLAVOR (Worth Watching), below radar after El Camino Real win, Sunday worked for the third time since, six in 1:14.00 (2/10) at BHP.

Jerry Hollendorfer's HEAR THE GHOST (Looking Good) Sunday breezed for the first time since winning the San Felipe on March 9, four in :50.80 (31/38) at BHP.

Bob Hess Jr. said today that MERIT MAN (to be added to Just In Case) will run in the Florida Derby after a seven-furlong workout in 1:29:00 (1/1) today at Gulfstream Park, per a tweet by Mike Welsch. The same trainer who early this year said Merit Man is a sprinter, period.

Steve Haskin tweeted on Sunday that a decision for Bob Baffert's POWER BROKER'S (Worth Watching) next race will be made after a workout set for today.

Looks like Eddie Plesa Jr.'s SPEAK LOGISTICS (Worth Watching) missed a work over the weekend. He last breezed on March 9.

At 77, Wayne Lukas will try to become the oldest trainer to win the Derby. Charlie Whittingham was 73 when he won with Ferdinand in 1986.

Added Pick of the Litter, possible for the Florida Derby, to Just In Case.

Added Midnight Lucky, bound for the Sunland Derby, to Worth Watching.

Added back Looking Cool to Worth Watching after he pulled an upset winning an entry-level allowance at Gulfstream Park on Sunday.

Added back Footbridge to Just In Case after he finally broke his maiden at Santa Anita on Sunday.

Added back the previously deleted Mudflats and Persuasive Paul to Just In Case; Sunland Derby said to be next for both.

Promoted Oxbow and Will Take Charge to Looking Good from Worth Watching.

Demoted Super Ninety Nine to Worth Watching from Looking Good.

Deleted Delhomme from Looking Good.

Deleted Title Contenter from Just In Case
