Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

Wednesday Morning's Derby Trail Notes

Highlights from updates to our Looking Good, Worth Watching and Just In Case pages. Refer to those pages for details.

Tony Dutrow's GIANT FINISH (Just In Case) finished his major prep for the Spiral yesterday with four in :49.40 (11/14) at KEE.

OXBOW (Looking Good) has been confirmed for the Arkansas Derby. Lukas on Oxbow to DRF.com: "He's shipped a couple of times. He's got a lot of seasoning. He doesn't need to find out if he can travel and run. We know he can. And, he's a tough little rascal that needs probably another race just to keep him on the ground so he doesn't hit orbit. So, we'll keep him right here at home, walk out of his own stall, and we know he likes the racetrack."

WILL TAKE CHARGE (Looking Good) could run in the Blue Grass or train up to the Derby. "He's in a tremendous growth spurt right now," Lukas told DRF.com in the same interview. "Weekly, I think he grows an inch! He's like that kid that you wake up one day and all of the sudden he's six-foot-six. This horse is making such a growth spurt and he's maturing rapidly. I think he's headed in the right direction, big time."

Early yesterday afternoon, Paul Hornung announced that TITLETOWN FIVE (Worth Watching) will go to the Louisiana Derby instead of Sunday's Sunland Derby. Yesterday morning, Titletown Five breezed six on a good track in 1:16.20 (1/2) at OP.

Keith Desormeaux said that WHISKEY BRAVO (unlisted) is going to the Louisiana Derby. He finished fourth in the Texas Heritage Stakes at Sam Houston last time out. James Graham will have the mount.

Al Stall Jr.'s Kentucky suspension is scheduled to run March 28 through April 6. The Louisiana Derby is March 30. Stall said he'll appeal the suspension.
