Kentucky Derby and Horse Racing at The Downey Profile®

Black Onyx Gallops; Vyjack Due Soon

4/20/2013

Black Onyx, who breezed last Saturday at Churchill Downs, put in a strong gallop today instead.

Churchill Downs clockers caught the Grade III Spiral winner in 1:25 for six furlongs.

“He really looked good,” trainer Kelly Breen said. “I wasn’t looking to go too fast, and we kept him off the rail so he didn’t get too eager. His last quarter was his best quarter, and that’s what we wanted. Weather permitting, he’ll have a blowout next Saturday.”

Verrazano, Revolutionary, Normandy Invasion, Mylute, Will Take Charge and Normandy Invasion are scheduled to work at Churchill Downs on Sunday morning.

Mylute will breeze a half-mile solo under jockey Rosie Napravnik at 6:00 ET. The others are expected to work after the break at 8:30, the time reserved for Derby horses. Agent Steve Krajcir said Jon Court will be aboard Will Take Charge.

Scheduled to arrive at Churchill Downs from Fair Hill Training Center at about 4:00 a.m. on Sunday is Vyjack. He will be stabled in Dale Romans’ barn 4 for trainer Rudy Rodriguez. As part of an offer made by Rodriguez during a hearing on his application to get a Kentucky trainer's license, a video camera will be trained on Vyjack's stall.
