Orb, the Grade I Florida Derby winner, arrived safely at Churchill Downs Monday morning by van.
After breezing five furlongs at Payson Park in 1:02.00 (3/5) yesterday morning, Orb was loaded on a van for the 1,100-mile trek to Louisville. He went through the gate at Churchill Downs at 7:20 a.m. and is stabled in Barn 43.
D. Wayne Lukas sent Oxbow out this morning at the track to breeze five furlongs in 1:01 under Gary Stevens, his Derby-day jockey. Oxbow's splits were :12.00, :24.20, :36.20 and 48.80. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:14.40 and seven in 1:28.40.
Oxbow most recently finished fifth in the Grade I Arkansas Derby.
Code West (1:01.20) breezed five furlongs inside of Fed Biz (1:00.80). Fed Biz started two lengths back of Code West and finished on even terms with him. Code West's splits were :13.20, :25.20 and :37.80. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:13.40. Fed Biz was out six in 1:13.00.
Bob Baffert trains Code West, who was most recently sixth in the Grade II Louisiana Derby. He's on the Derby points bubble -- and is being evaluated for a possible start in the race. Todays' work was part of that process.
Baffert's Power Broker, who appears to be pointing to either the Grade III Derby Trial or the Preakness Stakes, breezed six furlongs in 1:12.80, going inside of Kentucky Oaks contender Midnight Lucky, who was timed in 1:12.00. Power Broker's splits were :23.60, :35.20, and out seven furlongs in 126.20.
Lost in the shuffle of all the activity in Louisville on Sunday, Tiz A Minister worked four furlongs in :50.20 (35/40) at Betfair Hollywood Park. He's ranked number 24 on a fluid Kentucky Derby leaderboard, and trainer Paul Aguirre is on the record saying he'd like to get Tiz a Minister into the race.
