Stakes Probables, Possibles This Saturday
By Dick Downey
From stakes coordinator Jim Cornes, a few probables and possibles for Saturday's Kentucky Downs Turf Cup Stakes and Kentucky Downs Turf Dash Stakes.
Among the probables are Side Road, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin; Suntracer, trained by 2012 Turf Cup winning trainer Chris Block; and Temeraine, trained by Tom Proctor and to be ridden by Gary Stevens.
Stevens is a Hall of Fame jockey who's named on two mounts Wednesday, Monastic in the ninth race and Herecomethehawks in the tenth.
Possible for the Turf Cup are Cul Baire (IRE), trained by James Day; Graham Motion's filly Dane Street, who was scratched from the Ladies Marathon last Saturday; and Twilight Eclipse from the barn of Tom Albertrani.
Neither defending Turf Cup champ Ioya Bigtime (6th in Arlington's St. Leger last out) nor 9-year-old Rahystrada (11th in the Arlington Million) will make the Turf Cup. Rahystrada has competed in the race twice, winning it in 2011 and finishing second last year.
Turf Dash probables include Joan Scott trainee Ancil; Canuletmedowneasy from Bret Calhoun's barn; and defending champ Good Lord, conditioned by Forrest Kaelin. Good Lord is owned by Stan Young and Doug Shank of nearby Bowling Green.
One that could be in the Turf Dash is Pure Tactics, also nominated to Saturday's Franklin-Simpson Mile by trainer Morris Nicks. Considered possible for the Turf Dash by Cornes are Malibu High and Regally Ready.
Ol Army, an allowance winner last year at the track, is nominated to both the Turf Sprint and the Turf Cup.
Entries for the Saturday 10-race card, which also includes the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf and Juvenile Fillies Turf, close Tuesday. First post is 1:35 CDT.
