Coalport Adds to Ramsey Run in Franklin-Simpson Mile

By Dick Downey

Coalport got up to win by a head over Trend, collecting the third stakes victory of the day for Ken and Sarah Ramsey in the Franklin-Simpson Mile at Kentucky Downs.
Ridden by Channing Hill for Wayne Catalano, the jockey and trainer each got their third wins of the day. Hill rode for Catalano each time.

Coalport was timed in 1:35.86. He paid $6.00 to win, $3.60 to place and $2.80 to show.
It was Coalport's first run at Kentucky Downs. The son of Kitten's Joy had exited a win in an optional claiming race at Arlington Park after finishing first in the $100,000 Black Tie Affair at the same track, then sixth in the Grade III Arlington Handicap.
Close behind Trend at the finish line was Utley, who made a belated run on the outside of the field through the stretch. Ol Army, who won an allowance race at the track last year, was fourth. Depeche Chat, winner of the Franklin-Simpson Mile in 2012, was unplaced.

Coalport was bred in Illinois by the Ramsey's and is out of the Saint Ballado mare Ballade's Girl.

The Ramsey's previously won the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies Stakes and the Kentucky Downs Turf Dash on the five-stake card.
