Bond Holder has been scratched from the Risen Star Stakes after sustaining an injury on s flight from California to New Orleans.
First reported by Steve Haskins at blood horse.com today, connections hoped to the injury was superficial, but it turns out it is worse than originally thought.
Owner Paul Reddam told Haskin that Bond Holder was "banged up quite badly" during the flight. "We hoped it would be superficial and he would be fine for Saturday, but it is worse than we thought so we are going to have to scratch him," Reddam said.
The Risen Star drew 16 entries, two of which were named also-eligible. The first horse on that list is Emmett Park, a gelding and 15th in the program. James Graham is named to ride for trainer Robert Pincins.
The scratch moves presumptive favorite Vicar's in Trouble, the Lecomte Stakes winner, one post in from the 14. Yesterday Rosie Napravnik, scheduled to ride Vicar's in Trouble, said she wouldn't have chosen such a wide post but that it beats post 1. Napravnik said the tactical speed possessed by Vicar's in Trouble should enable him to get into good position.
