McGaughey Says Final Decison on Rebel Coming Soon

By Dick Downey

Shug McGaughey said Thursday that Honor Code will work again on March 2 or 3, and then a final decision wiil be made whether to enter him in the Rebel Stakes set for March 15.

McGaughey said that if Honor Code runs well in the Rebel, he'd set his sights on the Arkansas Derby four weeks later.

Honor Code, who misssed some training time, has now posted three straight weekly workouts. Most recently, Honor Code breezed four furlongs in :52.23 at Gulfstream Park.

“It was a little slower than I wanted, but it was fine,” McGaughey said. “It was really a five-eighths work from the half-mile pole, and my rider said he was really best after the wire. He galloped out real strong."

McGaughey said that although Honor Code missed valuable training time, he believes the Lane’s End Racing and Dell Ridge Farm color bearer is fit and hasn't lost much conditioning.
