Conquest Typhoon at Golden Gate for 3-Year-Old Debut

Conquest Typhoon, one of the finalists for the Sovereign Award as Canada’s top 2-year-old of 2014, will make his 3-year-old debut Saturday at Golden Gate Fields in the El Camino Real Derby.

Conquest Typhoon made six starts as a 2-year-old and finished in the exacta in all but one of his races.  Trained by Mark Casse, Conquest Typhoon won the Summer Stakes at Woodbine in Toronto, and in his final start of 2014, he took the Cecil B. DeMille Stakes on the turf at Del Mar on Nov. 30. He flew home in the DeMille, running the final furlong in approximately :11.50 and timed for the mile in 1:36.93.  In early November, Conquest Typhoon finished fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
An Ontario-bred, the bay colt by Stormy Atlantic was purchased as a yearling for $330,000.  Owned by the Conquest Stable of Ernie Semersky, Conquest Typhoon earned $352,065 during his 2-year-old campaign.

Conquest Typhoon gets the services of one of the top money riders in Smith, who goes into the El Camino Real Derby with momentum after having captured the $500,000 San Antonio Stakes with Shared Belief last Saturday at Santa Anita.
