Madefromlucky to Rebel; Horton Explains Filly Decision

By Dick Downey

A son from the first crop of Looking at Lucky will try to emulate his dad on March 14 -- win the Rebel Stakes in his sophomore debut.

Madefromlucky is based in south Florida with trainer Todd Pletcher. He won his last two starts, including a nine-furlong entry-level allowance at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 4.

Madefromlucky worked five furlongs in :59.14 (2/8) Monday at Palm Beach Downs. John Velazquez is scheduled to ride.
Meanwhile, owner Willis Horton today offered his rationale for running Take Charge Brandi against the boys, including American Pharoah, in the Rebel.

“I really want to find out how good she is,” Horton said. “If she can beat the boys, I think her better chance of doing that is early than later in the year, because the boys will start really gaining. I’m just wanting to take a chance on beating the boys. I’m just trying to build her resume up.”

There is no doubt of one thing, a lot of buzz should be generated when two juvenile champions face each other.
