Khozan has been taken off the road to the Kentucky Derby, according to published reports.
Al Shaqab Racing's U.S. racing manager Bradley Weisbord said an issue with Khozan's right hind ankle forced the decision and that Khozan will be seen by Dr. Larry Bramlage of Rood & Riddle Equine Center on March 9. The problem was noticed Friday by trainer Todd Pletcher.
"There are some issues with his right hind ankle," Weisbord told Bloodhorse.com. "There's something going on there. The Monday appointment with Dr. Bramlage is to find out whether he needs surgery or not. It's not as simple as a foot bruise. He's going to need time off."
Khozan has two wins from two starts at Gulfstream Park, the most recent a 12 3/4-length allowance win on Feb. 22. The Florida Derby was being considered for his next start.
