'Pharoah' Blitzes Gate Work

American Pharoah worked six furlongs from the gate Friday morning for the Rebel Stakes, impressing onlookers with his quickness.

In company, he breezed six furlongs from the gate in 1:10.40 and galloped out seven in 1:22.80 under Martin Garcia. Workmate Whiskey Ticket was timed in 1:11.80.

“He is ready,” owner Ahmed Zayat said. “We know he is fast, but the way he did it today was so impressive. Very happy horse.”

Bob Baffert will attempt to win his fifth Rebel in the last six years. The 1 1/16-mile Rebel will be American Pharoah's first start outside Southern California.

The colt will be flown to Hot Springs Wednesday.
