TVG reported Thursday afternoon via a message from BritneyEurton-Baff that Bob Baffert is keeping Lord Nelson out of the Sunland Derby.
Last seen finishing fourth in the San Felipe Stakes, Lord Nelson hasn't been diagnosed with a physical issue, according to reports. Baffert said, according to a tweet by SA Press Box, "Nothing is wrong with him. He's OK. I was hoping he would bounce back, but (he's) not as sharp as I'd want him to be. I'll just wait."
The trainer indicated that the seven-furlong Bay Shore Stakes or the 1 1/16-mile Coolmore Lexington Stakes could be next for Lord Nelson.
The Bay Shore has no Kentucky Derby points, and the Coolmore Lexington, set for April 11, carries 17 points with 10 to the winner. Lord Nelson has six points and is in 28th place on the Road to the Kentucky Derby points leaderboard.
