American Pharoah breezed five furlongs on Sunday at Churchill Downs and was pronounced ready for the Kentucky Derby by trainer Bob Baffert.
Under Martin Garcia, who is named to ride stable mate Dortmund in the Derby, American Pharoah sped to a time of 58.40. His splits were 11.40, 23.00 and 34.60, out six furlongs in 1:11.40 and seven in 1:27.00.
Baffert said American Pharoah was "fresh" in his first workout since winning the Arkansas Derby. As for the quickness of the fractions, Baffert said, "That's what he does. He hasn't regressed."
Baffert said the colt galloped out well and wasn't blowing hard when he got back to barn 33.
"He's exciting to watch and surprises me every time he runs," Baffert said.
With the Derby six days away, Baffert cited the need to have a good week, a good post position draw on Wednesday and racing luck.
"We can't get ahead of ourselves," he said.
