Kentucky Downs Eighth Annual Turf Handicapping Challenge

By Dick Downey

Purses will be sky-high at the 2015 Kentucky Downs meet, and the eighth annual Kentucky Downs Turf Handicapping Challenge tournament on Sept. 12 offers enhanced rewards for handicappers too.

Among other prizes, this handicapping contest is a win-and-you're-in event for two spots representing Kentucky Downs in the Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship to be held in Las Vegas on January 28-30, 2016; one spot in the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge on October 30 and 31, and one spot in the Race Track Warriors Jockey Draft Big Game.

Another plus is that the contest, formerly held on a weekday, has been moved to a Saturday date.

“Kentucky Downs is thrilled to be partnering with the NTRA, Breeders’ Cup, and Race Track Warriors/Jockey Draft to make this our biggest tournament to date,” said C.J. Johnsen, Live Racing Manager of Kentucky Downs. “With the added seating made available for this year, we are able to host the tournament on a Saturday and cater to our out of town contestants.”

A new feature is the option to qualify for the Turf Handicapping Challenge online via RaceTrackWarriors.com and JockeyDraft.com. Daily feeders start as low as $13, and qualifiers will be held on weekends with the final qualifier taking place on Monday, September 7. Qualifier winners will receive entry fees and a $500 travel voucher to Kentucky Downs.

Participants must make a win/place selection on each of the ten live races on the September 12 card at Kentucky Downs. The entry fee is $150.

Contestant finishing in first place receives his or her choice between: -- One seat to the 2015 BCBC to be held during the Breeders’ Cup on October 30 and 31 at Keeneland and one entry in the Race Track Warriors Jockey Draft Big Game OR --One of two seats in the NHC to be held in Las Vegas on January 28-30, 2016 and one entry in the Race Track Warriors Jockey Draft Big Game
